Immovable constellation A sky of contradictions Terrified of wishing for more It was beautiful But now it’s different I’ve been dreaming little fictions And losing my conviction that you’re Gonna fill this space Carved by doubt I’m sick of this place I’ve gotta get out Can’t blame the stars for not aligning Can’t blame the path for how it’s winding Or blame fate for its bad timing Choosing someone else Can’t blame the past for how it hurt me Can’t blame her for not returning All I can do is keep learning Not to blame myself Painfully unforgiving I gathered all the wreckage And made it into weapons aimed at me That brutal knife In my own hand Can’t save my life It’s not who I am Can’t blame the stars for not aligning Can’t blame the path for how it’s winding Or blame fate for such bad timing Choosing someone else Can’t blame the past for how it hurt me Can’t blame her for not returning All I can do is keep learning Not to blame myself

about

I wrote this song in Feb 2020 just a few weeks before the world changed forever, with my friend, the wonderfully talented Rebekah Powell. This song was born from a persistent, exhausting, niggling feeling of doubt. Doubt of the self, of life’s path, of certain relationships. It’s an acknowledgement of the anxiety inducing voices in our heads which try to take us down, to block our potential…the little fictions we tell ourselves that drown out our intuition and make it hard to trust the journey. The song is also an attempt to stand up to them.

An incredible team helped me to bring what I heard in my head to life. Especially my great friends Stephen Leiweke who encouraged me to record it at his East Nashville studio and Johnny Parry who composed and recorded the most beautiful strings I’ve ever heard, here in my home town of Bedford, UK.
